I’m not sure why, but Thanksgiving was reserved for some of the spices mom used only around the winter holidays, and I followed in my kitchen. Ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and Bell’s Seasoning. Over 150 years and strong. This mixture of Rosemary, oregano, Sage, Ginger, Marjoram, Thyme and Pepper spiced up our sausage dressing for every Thanksgiving. It’s only recently I’m trying to incorporate these more year-round, but definitely I’m an autumnal spice girl at heart. Today’s soup of the day was Spiced Butternut with butter, spices and maple syrup. I used a vegetable Better than Bullion and a heavier than normal milk and it was Thanksgiving in a Cup. My brother and his lovely wife, Barbara, are here from South Carolina and it felt like the holidays. The girls enjoyed the warm spiced soup and the boys passed. I think my brother, Rich is saving room for another piece of his favorite: Snow Ghost Chocolate Cream Pie. Look under my dessert link and find a family treasured recipe shared.
